Alicia Sacramone gold moment came at the World Cup Finals in Birmingham, England where all eyes were suddenly on her when she upset the then current Olympic vault champion to take first place on the event.
However, this hectic schedule of training has of course affected Alicia Sacramone to concentrate fully on her studies because “I’m always running around” she claims. Alicia Sacramone schedule involves training and running around venues for competition and she is always late for school because she can never be on time.
This has concerned team co-ordinators because historically, girls like Alicia Sacramone will probably sacrifice their gymnastic dreams to go to college.
What do you think ? If given a choice, would you prefer to pursue your dreams or stay in college ? I think its a fine balance between chasing what you believe in and doing what other people are doing. The norm is to stay in college. However, what if one day you can’t do sports anymore ? Will it be a disadvantage if Alicia Sacramone comes out to the work force one day ? I guess these factors plague athletes from reaching their full potential. Unless the government or the country has the commitment to support an athlete for life, then I think that practical reality still rules the day.
